    Description

    I'm selling this fine landscape drawing, dating back to the second quarter of the 19th century.
    The drawing, executed in pencil and white watercolor on 19th century paper, depicts a mountanious, wooded landscape, most likely made during a journey in Switzerland.
    Authorship : the drawing is from the Belgian School, signed right below "Ch. Soubre".  This is the signature of Charles Soubre.
    CHARLES SOUBRE (Liège 1821 - Liège 1895) : Painter, draughtsman of the Romantic School.  He trained at the "Académie des Beaux-Arts" at Liège, where he was a pupil of Vieillvoye and Closson.  Stylisticly, he was influenced by the French Romantic School, painting landscapes and historical scenes (sometimes large size frescos with historical themes).  In 1854, he was appointed as drawing teacher at the Liège Academy, a position he kept till 1889.
